A day trip from Tokyo, Kamakura is a cute little town with ancient
temples and other historical sites sprinkled around the area. It
is easy to walk to many of these along hiking trails and through
the city. The city has a long and interesting history, including
once being the capital of Japan.
Kamakura is perhaps most well known for its Daibutsu, or giant
Buddha, which is a large bronze statue of a seated Buddha which
is out in the open and has weathered the elements over the years.
Besides snapping a picture of Buddha, you can even go inside the
giant statue and if you are lucky see some of the monks that tend
to the area.
